On Saturday 28th February, 2015, the dancers performed at the U.Dance London ‘New Dimensions’ selection event held in the prestigious Clore Ballroom at the Southbank Centre. The dancers did a fantastic job and performed their uptempo jazz dance piece in front of a very receptive crowd. The dancers did a wonderful job and should be very proud of their efforts. Here's a snippet.

AYD were delighted to have been selected as one of the eight regional finalists for U.Dance 2014! We had an amazing, fun-filled day. The day began with a tech rehearsal on stage and we were introduced to all the staff that would be assisting us throughout the day. Everyone there was very helpful and excited. Following on from our tech run on stage, we had a rehearsal and made our last minute tweaks to the routine that we would be performing later on that day.
After lunch we had an insightful careers lecture on different pathways we take when considering a profession in the dance world. We then had a workshop with two very talented dancers from, the stage production of, Lord of the flies. It was very different from the type of workshops we have done before but it was very enjoyable as we participated with another dance group. Thereafter we had a dress rehearsal and got to watch the other group’s performances. All of the group's dances were fantastic and the atmosphere during the dress rehearsal was enchanting as everyone praised and congratulated one another after each performance.
Later on that evening we had our final performance and all our hard work had paid off, we received an enormous round of applause when taking our bow.

Our dancers took part in an exciting workshop for the new theatrical dance piece based on the book Lord Of The Flies by William Golding. It was fantastically lead by two members of the Matthew Bourne dance company, 'New Adventures'. The dancers explored the use of characterisation and had a chance to interact with their fellow competitors. Furthermore they learnt an exciting and cleverly choreographed section of the dance with a stimulus of 'different sports'. Overall it was a high energy workshop which allowed the dancers to explore the more narrative side of dance.
On Sunday 27th April, the dancers took part in U.Dance London, an incredible showcase of some of the best youth dance companies from across London. A fantastic photo gallery from the event has been published on londondance.com. All photos are by the talented Carole Edrich and you can have a look at them here.
