Dance Performance at Restec 2015—Leeds and London (27th and 30th November, 2015)

Artistry Youth Dance went on our first trip outside of London, taking the dancers to Leeds to perform in ‘Restec 2015’. It was an amazing event led by Phoenix Dance Theatre in Leeds and Newham College (NewVic) in London.

The ResTec platform is part of a series of events across the UK aiming to increase awareness of HIV and AIDS. It was an exciting evening of thought-provoking dance that featured a selection of youth dance companies and professional artists, including the Phoenix Youth Academy. Only 3 groups from London performed in Leeds therefore it was a privilege to have been included in the programme.

The event gave the dancers the chance to perform whilst also meeting other talented young people from across the UK. Opportunities like this are extremely beneficial, offering an insight into the industry and gaining experience of working within a professional environment.

We also had the chance to watch the fantastic Phoenix Dance Theatre live at the Royal Opera House. The Company presented a Triple Bill featuring Until.With/Out.Enough by prominent Israeli choreographer Itzik Galili, Bloom  by rising star Caroline Finn and TearFall, by Sharon Watson, Artistic Director of Phoenix Dance Theatre.

We had a wonderful evening and the dancers even had the opportunity to meet the Artistic Director, Sharon Watson, after the show.

Have a read of the reviews written by some of the dancers about their thoughts on the show. Click here to see what they thought!

Phoenix Dance Theatre Workshop

The dancers participated in a two-day intensive workshop with dance artist Amanda Lewis from Phoenix Dance Theatre. The dancers worked on contemporary dance technique as well as choreography, to create their piece, 'Fracture', for ‘Restec 2015’. The dancers also had the chance to learn about Amanda’s extensive career and her experience of being a dancer and choreographer. The workshop was thoroughly enjoyed by all!
