Performance - One Dance UK Dance Teaching & Participation Conference (Saturday 25th November)

One Dance UK Teaching Conference.jpg

We will be performing at this year's One Dance UK Dance Teaching & Participation Conference on Saturday 25th November. We will be performing our piece, 'Awaken by Night', choreographed by Heather Benson. It will be an exciting event that combines key notes, discussion, practical workshops and research presentations to update, up-skill and uplift the dance teachers both within and outside of the formal education sectors. It will also have tailored content for those that organise or manage dance learning and participation programmes with dance companies or venues.

Drawing upon the work of leaders in dance education and youth dance settings, the conference will be a great place for everyone to network and learn about what’s happening in dance teaching across England.

The evening performance will take place at 6pm at Trinity Laban. For more information about the event, and to book tickets, visit: http://www.onedanceuk.org/event/one-dance-uk-conference-season-2017/

‘Blaze’ Girls’ Day of Dance Trinity Laban

Trinity Laban

15th February, 2017

Artistry Youth Dance

For the second year in succession, we were guest performers at ‘Blaze’, a unique dance event run by Trinity Laban. Blaze is an interactive day of dance for girls aged 11-16 years, aimed to encourage them to participate in dance. The day featured performances by female dancers in order to inspire the participants. Audience members stated that their highlight of the event was ‘being able to watch all of the different performances’. A huge thank you to Trinity Laban for including us in such an uplifting event.

Our day at U.Dance as regional finalists!

By Chanelle (company dancer)

AYD were delighted to have been selected as one of the eight regional finalists for U.Dance 2014! We had an amazing, fun-filled day. The day began with a tech rehearsal on stage and we were introduced to all the staff that would be assisting us throughout the day. Everyone there was very helpful and excited. Following on from our tech run on stage, we had a rehearsal and made our last minute tweaks to the routine that we would be performing later on that day.

After lunch we had an insightful careers lecture on different pathways we take when considering a profession in the dance world. We then had a workshop with two very talented dancers from, the stage production of, Lord of the flies. It was very different from the type of workshops we have done before but it was very enjoyable as we participated with another dance group.  Thereafter we had a dress rehearsal and got to watch the other group’s performances. All of the group's dances were fantastic and the atmosphere during the dress rehearsal was enchanting as everyone praised and congratulated one another after each performance.

Later on that evening we had our final performance and all our hard work had paid off, we received an enormous round of applause when taking our bow.

Workshop with Matthew Bourne's 'New Adventures'

By Amina (company dancer)

Our dancers took part in an exciting workshop for the new theatrical dance piece based on the book Lord Of The Flies by William Golding. It was fantastically lead by two members of the Matthew Bourne dance company, 'New Adventures'. The dancers explored the use of characterisation and had a chance to interact with their fellow competitors. Furthermore they learnt an exciting and cleverly choreographed section of the dance with a stimulus of 'different sports'. Overall it was a high energy workshop which allowed the dancers to explore the more narrative side of dance.
