We know that everyone's doing them so we thought we'd do our own Mannequin Challenge! Filmed at our end of term Watching Day. A special thanks to the parents and audience members who took part as well! Filmed by Carole Edrich.

A fantastic audience for our end of year dance showcase

Thank you to everyone who attended our end of year dance showcase, 'Resilience'. We are grateful to those who were in the audience, and those who supported from afar. The dancers presented a range of pieces in Jazz, Contemporary and South African influenced dance styles, choreographed by Kamara Gray, Gerrard Martin, Amanda Lewis, and guest choreographer Mbulelo Ndabeni.

The evening was hosted by Simone Daley-Richards, and also featured performances by two special guest artists. Choreographer, Hannah Anderson-Ricketts,  presented a beautiful duet, 'Remote', featuring dancers Valerie Ebuwa and Cherilyn Albert. Namron OBE, performed his emotional solo, 'Missing', which was a delight to watch. The audience included the Worshipful the Mayor of Islington, Councillor Kat Fletcher and the Islington Young Mayor, Darey Cletus who both gave positive feedback for the performance.

We'd like to thank the Islington Council Local Initiatives Fund for their support, as well as  Paradise Patties and Miss Munchins Cupcakes, for providing the delicious food for the evening. The event was thoroughly enjoyed by all and we look forward to presenting futures performances.

Masterclass with international choreographer, Anthony Burrell!

Anthony Burrell, an American Creative Director, Choreographer and Dance Artist, delivered an exciting Contemporary Dance Masterclass. Anthony began his career as a company dancer with Ailey II and later with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

Anthony has since forged an impressive career in the Commercial Dance industry, working with artists including Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Alicia Keys, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.

He surprised two students by awarding them with scholarships to attend his Summer intensive programme, 'Breaking Barriers', taking place in Philadelphia in July, 2016. He is dedicated to providing dance training to under-served youth and was a great inspiration for our dancers.

Positive Push at The Brit School!

Dance Performance at Restec 2015—Leeds and London (27th and 30th November, 2015)

Artistry Youth Dance went on our first trip outside of London, taking the dancers to Leeds to perform in ‘Restec 2015’. It was an amazing event led by Phoenix Dance Theatre in Leeds and Newham College (NewVic) in London.

The ResTec platform is part of a series of events across the UK aiming to increase awareness of HIV and AIDS. It was an exciting evening of thought-provoking dance that featured a selection of youth dance companies and professional artists, including the Phoenix Youth Academy. Only 3 groups from London performed in Leeds therefore it was a privilege to have been included in the programme.

The event gave the dancers the chance to perform whilst also meeting other talented young people from across the UK. Opportunities like this are extremely beneficial, offering an insight into the industry and gaining experience of working within a professional environment.
